Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs, one at a time. Add flour, alternating with buttermilk, mixed with soda; add flavorings and spices. Then add fruit, jam, nuts and raisins. Bake in 3 layers for 30 minutes or until done.
Filling:
3 cups sugar 1 cup sweet milk 1/4 lb. butter 1 coconut 1 whole orange 1 cup raisins 1 can pineapple
Boil sugar and milk to a caramel and add butter. Grind together coconut, orange, raisins and pineapple. Mix together and spread between layers. (This was my mother's cake and it is out of this world good!!!)
